Overview

Watch birds and wildlife from a whole new perspective and enjoy the gentle tranquillity of a boat cruise in the Okavango Delta in Botswana and Blyde Canyon Nature Reserve in South Africa.

The Specifics

In Botswana, the Okavango Delta is our playground. Water-based activities like motorised boat cruises and mokoro excursions add to the safari scene. We watch elephants cross the lagoons, see birds perch on the edge of the channels and glide into the sunset.

Our Greater Kruger boating activities take place on the Blyde Dam in the heart of the Lowveld Panorama Route and the world's largest green canyon. The scenery includes iconic mountain structures, birds, and hippos that bask on the banks.

Okavango Delta:

This pristine wetland is a protected World Heritage Site, celebrated for its biodiversity and unique ecosystems. Every year it floods as it is fed by rivers up north, and in winter (June, July) the water levels rise and the channels widen and deepen, bringing boat cruises into season.

Motorised boating activities offer some of the best views of the Okavango Delta. Guests will get to watch hippos appearing and disappearing around them and see elephants crossing the waterways ahead of them. Boat cruises are conducted by a river guide who will drive the boat and impart his knowledge about the area and the animals, and all our guests have to do is relax with a refreshment and keep a camera at the ready!

Our boat cruise activities depart from Xakanaxa boat station in Moremi Game Reserve and can be incorporated into full-day trips into the reserve as an added activity with a return time of 18h00 – 19h00)

Blyde Dam:

The Blyde Dam lies within the Blyde River Canyon – the third largest canyon in the world. A 30-seater leisure boat will take our guests on an interpretive cruise, which explains some of the history of this naturally exquisite area and offers views of the sub-tropical slopes of the canyon walls.

Hippos are often spotted on the banks and a vast array of bird species can be seen sweeping across the water and perching alongside it and wading in the shallows. The tour includes refreshments and a tour guide who will take guests to the rare living Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the Three Rondavels.

This is an activity offered as an added extra for guests staying at Bundox Safari Lodge.
